Infinity: Concept Art and Storyboards

'Infinity' tells the story of 2 long-lost fatigued middle-aged friends, who reunite in a cramped faulty lift, and take off in their ecstasy into a world without limits.

I was in charge of making concept art to set the mood for the infinite world, environment art of the lift, and delivered my takes on the story through 2 versions of the storyboard.

This project began as a competition entry with the theme as Infinity. After wrecking our minds for ideas, the idea of contrast between a tiny, even claustrophobic area (especially in the context of a lift breakdown) and a world without limits in their minds sounded very exciting. This story depicts the joy of reunion and happiness of remembrance, we want to portray this feeling of catharsis in a localised context of childhood activities in Singapore to tug at the heartstrings of the middle aged working class troubled by all the roles and obligations they have to face on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, due to time constraint we were unable to participate in the actual competition with this story. However, we would love to realise this story in the future when we are less busy with school.

Concept art for the first portion of the infinite world. I included the betta fish, country erasers, paper windwheels and flowing water as elements of childhood due to the localised context of our story.

I also attempted this style that resembled children's paper cut out art to test its suitability.

Design for the lift. Made it look battered, old and dirty to heighten the contrast between reality and the infinite space later.

Storyboard 1 was the first take on the story. It centred more around the unrestrainedness of childhood thus scenes of the protagonists being reckless and even playing around with a boss figure.

Storyboard 2 was more about them reliving their childhood memories in the infinite space.
